Hello Randy,

An informative post, as always.

There seems to be another scam going around, I have had two so far. An email is sent informing me that one of my mailboxes has reached its limit. When I open the email, it says that my mailbox limit has been exceeded. It then goes on to give me a link to click to change the allowance. This link asks for my password to my mailbox, which is required to change the limit.

I know better. I checked before I clicked on the link and I was nowhere near full.

This got me thinking that if I had given my password the scammers could have used my email address for all sorts of reasons. As it is, some of my other email addresses have been phished, but my hosting company says not to worry about them because the headers are wrong.

But, if they had my email address, with the password, then my hosting account could have been blocked because of persistent spam. That's not what anyone would want (except the scammers cos it won't hurt them).

Just beware if any of you get the same warnings about full email accounts.

By the way Randy, I would love to come to Northallerton for your meeting, but 600 miles for a round trip and 12 hours driving is a little bit excessive. Maybe next time I'm visiting relatives up north and there is a meeting scheduled. Perhaps I could combine the two. We'll see.

Kind Regards and keep up the good work.

I will repeat what Carol said because I think it needs emphasized: The IRS of the USA will NEVER NEVER E.V.E.R. send an e-mail to a taxpayer about their account. Obviously this garbage works or the scammers wouldn't keep doing it. Again - NEVER will anyone receive a legitimate e-mail from the IRS about your account and especially when it includes what looks like a Social Security number. Also, agreeing with Randy, NEVER click on a link in any e-mail. Go to the site instead (i.e., paypal).

Just had to leave a few notes regarding the IRS for USA readers.

They never send emails to you unless you are an authorized preparer and then you have a password.

They never call you on the phone. Are you kidding? You can barely get through to them.

IRS notifies by mail and there is little question about its origin.

The only other way they will contact you is perhaps a knock on the door but that is only if you have been very bad and you will know that because you have been ignoring their letters.
